Cherie's Favorite Posts of 2011

Let's have one more Top Ten, shall we? I asked my mom to pick her favorite recipes of last year because she is the one who actually tastes everything. She said it was hard narrowing it down, but here are some of her very favorites.

Strawberry Macadamia Spinach Salad
This recipe features strawberries (of course ;) and sugared macadamia nuts. It's a great way to dress up your greens.

Marion Berry Smoothie
This smoothie is a nutritional powerhouse! Not only are Marion berries delicious, but they are full of antioxidants and other incredible benefits.

Moist Whole Grain Banana Bread
This recipe entails boiling down some bananas to include pure banana juice in the bread for an extra intense flavor. And did we mention it's whole grain?

Healthy Chewy Chocolate Peanut Butter Granola Bar
How can you go wrong with peanut butter, chocolate, and oatmeal, plus a handful of other healthy ingredients and spices. Wrap these up individually for a quick, on-the-go snack.

Spelt Berry Cereal with Berries
A simple, whole-grain breakfast that tasted really good.

Cinnamon Roasted Butternut Squash
This one gets points for being a dish that has become a staple. We were once a family who did not eat squash. Now, thanks to this recipe, we find it on the table regularly. It's always nice to know there's another vegetable your family will eat!

Whole Grain Raspberry Oatmeal Bars
This was a great Valentine's Day treat to share! And Valentine's Day is right around the corner. . . .

Triple Onion Cream Soup
This soup uses two different kinds of onions and leeks.

Oatmeal Honey Spelt Wheat Bread
This bread rarely lasts until it's had time to cool at our house. It looked like restaurant bread—but we're guessing theirs isn't whole grain.

Spiced Apple Berry Almond Crumble with Almond Cream
The combination of apples, berries, and almonds were heavenly. And if you haven't tried almond cream yet, you should.

Shrimp Kabobs
Marinated overnight, this shrimp had fabulous flavor when it came off the barbecue the next day.

Fabulous Whole Grain Date Bars
I think this could be termed the year of the date. We used to not think dates sounded very good—ever—but we've been proven wrong. They add a natural sweetness to food and are delicious!

Top 10 Recipes of 2011

Just the post you've been waiting for, right? We've gone through our archives and and found our 10 most popular recipes for your enjoyment. We hope you had a great Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year!

1. Spinach Artichoke Dip-Inspired Casserole

This was by far your favorite recipe. Everyone's favorite party dip made into a casserole that you can actually eat for dinner! And justify it! Oh yeah.

2. Fresh Pumpkin Risotto

Risotto made from a fresh pumpkin, white grape juice, and chicken broth. This was a yummy seasonal recipe and a different use for pumpkin than just pumpkin pie.

3. Quick Sweet Brown Rice Risotto

Another great risotto recipe using sweet brown rice. A creamy chicken dish that had my family going back for seconds.

4. Spices–Chili Peppers, Thyme

Okay, this isn't really a recipe, but it was one of our most highest-veiwed posts. We did a series of posts on the health benefits of spices, and chili powder and thyme has been the most popular.

5. Mango Strawberry Smoothie

We didn't make enough of this refreshing summer drink. I wanted more. And I want some right now.

6. Sun-Dried Tomato and Artichoke Chicken Linguine

Practically a staple at my (Britney's) house, we make this at a couple of times a month. It's easy, delicious, and we always make extra for leftovers.

7. Fry Sauce

Making any sweet potato fries for New Years? (It's a great idea, you know). Here are three recipes for fry sauces. They also would work great as a veggie dip.

8. Buckwheat, Oatmeal, and Amaranth Cereal

Whole-grain breakfast cereal made creamy with coconut milk. A nutritional powerhouse for breakfast.

9. Whole Grain Vegetable Spinach Wraps

I'm proud to say my (Cherie's) son thought that these were store bought. That's not something to brag about for most foods, but for whole grain spinach tortillas--that's a triumph.

10. Blackberry Lemon Almond Torte

A creamy dessert with an almond crust. And a blackberry filling. It was delicious.

And that concludes this year's top 10! Thanks to all you lovely readers who helped keep us going this year! We appreciate your support!
