All About Quinoa

Pronounced "keen-wa," Quinoa is a supergrain that comes from the Andes of South America, and was one of the Mayan civilizations staple foods.

Health Benefits:
  • Quinoa contains more protien than any other grain!
  • It is a complete protein, meaning it contains all 9 essential amino acids, just like milk
  • It is light and easy to digest
  • High in lysine, which helps with tissue growth and repair
What Quinoa is Great for:

My favorite way to use quinoa is as a substitute for rice. Quinoa makes an excellent pilaf or salad, and cooks the same way white rice is cooked. I often make a side dish that contains a mixture of brown rice, quinoa, and barley. It's delicious. Quinoa can also be ground like wheat and used in baking, though it usually is used in a multi-grain mixture instead of on it's own.
